Do y'all know Kara at Sunshine Cupcakes? She is one of my faves. She and I are shoe twinsies and we like to have raucous, unladylike conversations during morning chat sessions. If you don't read her blog, quit sleepin!!
Kara has made a list of her 20 Most Influential Albums and encouraged us all to do the same. I have to confess that I find this a pretty intimidating challenge (inevitably, as soon as I hit "publish post," I will throw my hand to my head in exasperation, having realized I left out something crucial). But here goes my first attempt!
In No Particular Order:
Counting Crows, August and Everything After
Hole, Live Through This
Bob Marley, Legend
Neil Young, Harvest
Nirvana, MTV Unplugged
Allman Brothers, Dreams (does the whole collection count? If not, then disc 3)
Alanis Morissette, Jagged Little Pill
Billy Joel, Greatest Hits
Emmylou Harris, Red Dirt Girl
Jackson Browne, For Everyman
Jump, Little Children, Magazine
Citizen Cope, The Clarence Greenwood Recordings
Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
MC Solaar, Cinquieme As
Morcheeba, Parts of the Process
REM, Automatic for the People
Rolling Stones, Hot Rocks
Bonnie Raitt, The Best of Bonnie Raitt (if greatest hits don't count, I'll go with Nick of Time)
The Cranberries, No Need to Argue
U2, Achtung Baby
Now . . . this list leaves out some spectacular individual songs that are deeply rooted in my heart, but the list said albums. So there you have it. I can't promise that there won't be revisions.
Sooooo . . . give me yours!

That is a good list...Well done..I love U2 Achtung Baby:)

ps: I am hosting a really sweet GIVEAWAY, so please join in:) ...I bet you will love it!!!
k that is hard! not sure i could decide on just 20. and now with me rarely buying albums anymore and sticking to songs only, yea couldn't do it.
but your list is good. alanis is definitely up there. and LOVE that you included citizen cope. the guy rocks!
dude.
i love your list. like whoa.
man, i really wanted to be the first poster today! ;)
I'm SO going to have to do this... tomorrow. And I think it'll be really tough for me to do- 20 isn't very many! :)
Dude, that must have been so hard. Great list though. Rolling Stones :) The only band I have yet to see live. The better tour at least one last time before one of them dies hehe!
excellent list!
karim and minaz danced to harvest moon at their wedding and now kahzmir knows the words. too cute!
okay claire. so mine would also totally have alanis, billy joel, jackson browne and possibly bonnie raitt. okay and maybe some cranberries, too. but i'd also have to throw in some tupac (don't judge) and the eagles for sure. this is a tough one. so many amazing albums for top 20 influential. don't think i'm nuts by lionel richie's album that had dancing on the ceiling. oh yeah. AND bryan adams cuts like a knife FOR SURE.
yikes! this is enough to make me put on socks in heels and do a jig around the living room!! (with my frownies on - you know what this means).
xoxo,
carrie
That is quite an undertaking! I totally agree with Counting Crows - a friend of mine said that album is like a college sweatshirt - comfortable and familiar!
Oh, this is such a gret list! I don't know if I could narrow it down but I am tempted to try!
Isn't this just the most fabulous challenge ever?!~?!?!
I love that you included Nirvana - I wish I had done honorable mentions. Your list is supah fly, just like you. And thanks for the shoutout...you know I love our unladylike convos ;)
I think we may be long lost sistas. I love (and I don't admit this to most) that you threw Bonnie Raitt in there. I would have to have at least one Indigo Girls album, a Leppelin, Tupac's Makavelli (don't laugh), and lots of your list. Great post!
Awesome! REM, Cranberries, Counting Crows!! These are classical favorites of mine!!
Thanks for introducing us to Kara. I am off to check her out.
xo M
lots on there that would be on my list too, and some i've never heard of! i don't know that i could narrow it down to just 20 albums...
OMG what a fabulous list!! :) You did such a wonderful job with such a tough challenge and I love that I agree with so many of them :) I LOVE how diverse your list is! I LOVE Bonnie Raitt's version of "I can't make you love me" I have cried my eyes out to it on many occasions! Her voice is soooo amazing! I LOVE "Jagged Little Pill" - that would def. make my list as well! And I love, love, LOVE the Cranberries. I was JUST listening to them five songs ago as I was reading up on blogs :) Makes me smile that you remembered Lauryn Hill on your list :) And of course U2!! I love how I automatically started singing some songs just reading your fantastic list :)
This is a great list... I may have to do this myself... However I will just have to do it quick or I will start overanalizing my choices... HA
this list matches my list as well! alanis, nirvana, u2, hole some of the best! great list..great blog!
xoxo

i think it would take me a year of agonizing to develop my own list!
What a fantastic list! I'm more of a favourite song person more than album but yours is really great. I will definitely check out these albums though!
I have an award on my blog for you!
I think this is a really great list! I think I'll try this myself but I'm positive I'll make a list and change it a million times and never be happy with it...what a challenge! So happy to see Counting Crows, August and Everything After on your list!
Ooh, love Citizen Cope especially from your list! I may have to do a similar blog post!
I love Bonnie Raitt! Reminds me of weekends at my parents' house growing up. Also- I love Kara too, I agree that she's fabulous!
this is a great list, counting crows would definitely go on mine. i don't think i could ever put a list like this together, i'd be too stressed out about leaving something out!
