Call me crazy . . .

but somehow, I really do love Valentine's Day.

I've rarely been coupled on Valentine's Day.  I have an uncanny ability to end up in the midst of a break-up, or arrive at some sort of ending, right before February 14th (this year being no exception).  And yet, I can't help it--I still love the holiday.

Maybe it's that I love love, maybe it's that I love chocolate, maybe it's how cute conversation hearts look in Spanish:

My girlfriends and I have had an all girls Valentine's Day sleepover at my house the past five years, even those years we've been in relationships.  The V-Day sleepover always involves mac & cheese, pink lollipops, Valentini cocktails, funfetti cupcakes, nail polish, copious amounts of Sex and the City, and silky jammies.

I think this was 2008--we even had heart-shaped ravioli!

part of last year's spread

It's totally a controversial holiday.  Some people love getting super mushy with their lover, some couples think it's cheesy and commercial, some single people get bitter & boycott, and some single people--like me--embrace it as a day that celebrates LOVE!

Occasionally a little bit of self-pity begins to sink in, but then I remember how amazing my girlfriends are and how much fun the V-Day sleepover is every year.  And it's kind of cute that my coffee table is turning into a Valentine factory:

Plus, I bought this from Gracie's etsy shop last night:

What do you think of Valentine's Day?

I love it too. I was single for many years and it was always sad, but I still loved it....because as you said I love love.

Yah so what if it's a Hallmark holiday - a day to celebrate love? I'm there!!

I don't make a big deal of it or anything, but I still love it.

Okay so I usually find V-day slightly annoying...even if I am with someone. However, your V-day sleepover with your girlfriends may just change my mind!! The decorations, food, and candy look to fun to pass up! Hmm....maybe I should plan a V-day sleepover this year

Oh this was refreshing! I too love Valentine's Day, whether I'm coupled up or not. This year I'm riding solo but intend to have a great time anyway. I love having heart decorations and leaving surprise valentines for my co-workers. I love celebrating LOVE!

I've been married for ten years and we do nothing for V-day- Maybe Farts and Crafts with the monkeys- I make them write cards for their classmates-

awww this sounds like fun!!

I'm indifferent when it comes to Valentines Day. I never make a big deal out of it. It's nice to get a card that has a personal message in it. I mostly find it as an excuse to go out to a nice dinner..lol! What can I say, I like food? I'm also fond of the candy. =) hehe

YOU ARE CRAZY! lol! just kidding!

my mom always sends me something sweet on valentine's day, so it isn't all bad. then again, that usually makes me feel like ULTRA LOSER, but oh well! :)

Can you please invite me to your sleepover?? :) Looks like so much fun! I am always on the fence about V-Day...I'm like you, I tend to be single then. But love is always good :)

you are the cutest!! heart-shaped ravioli?! and sleepovers... even though i'm married, i want to spend V-day with you!!!

i love your little vday factory! :) i've seemed to have lost my "fun motivation"-- but seeing this post has made me want to put on some clothes and head to the craft store to pick up some materials to make home made cards... i did last year for a swap (http://dolcevitamicaela.blogspot.com/2010/01/my-valentine-card-creations.html) and LOVED theem! - course i had just moved as well and was snowed in but we're supposed to get some snow tomorrow so... yup! going to the store now :) ha

you'll get one, OF COURSE! thanks for inspiring me cos you're absolutely right-- it's a day about LOVE and where the hell would we be without our girlfriends!?

I like Vday but I don't go crazy for it. It isn't my favorite. This year, I told Dave, I want to go to the Belgian Waffle House and get a waffle with syrup and butter! FOR SURE!

I love V Day! I'm working on a post about it right now too! I've only spent two Valentine's Days with someone and neither were that great. I've had much better times with my girlfriends on Vday. This year we are scattered all over the country, so I'm sending them cute cards and then spending the day pampering myself.

Love it. Love making cards for all my friends and making pink cupcakes with my little guys. This year my best friend will be here from France and we'll be going for pedis and a festive lunch. Oh and now that you mention Sex and the City, that's a great idea! We'll probably watch that too!

v-day is alright...but i much prefer the day after. aka my BERFDAY!!! either way i'll be in mexico so its not like it will be a bad day.

Usually I let the day pass without a thought, if I'm single, that is, like this year. Maybe with a little thought I could make it a special day anyway! Thanks for the reminder!

Oh the preasure of Valentines Day! Philip and I hardly exchange gifts anymore (after nearly 10 years we just like to spoil each other together on a night out or dinner). Gone are the days when he use to send me flowers at work, but it almost feels like people are judging you if you don't get flowers sent to work on Valentine's Day you know? Last year my sweet little sister sent me a candy bouquet at work complete with Twilight candy :) It was the absolute sweetest thing in the whole world!
I wish I could go to your Valentine's Day sleepover! I love that you and your girlfriends do that! How fun to celebrate the day of love with the girls who are your soul mates! :) Can we do that this summer pretty please?! :) I'll have to get some silk jammies though (is it weird that I don't own a pair? haha)

My girlfriends and I always do a girls' weekend right around V-Day! In the years I've been in relationships and the years I've been single, I've always had a blast celebrating love with my ladyfriends. What a great tradition you have, I think it's important to celebrate more than just romantic love!

I think this post of yours has just put me in the mood. I do love Valentines but have been in a slump... I must have a party someday.

What a fun tradition!! Sleepover with the girls on Valentines Day! Awww. Everytime my girlfriends and I have tried to have a girl's night/sleepover, we always parted ways and ended up with boys. haha.

Sometimes I like to send out cards but this year I'm just not feeling it. I'm saving money and boycotting anything that makes me spend money.

i so wish i knew you in san francisco! my first couple years there i was totally single and i loved it. but come valentine's day and i was reminded of the love i had lost and all the horrible v day's previous {i had a lot of breakups and bad boyfriends around that time too}. so i finally started making myself an "i hate valentine's day" gift box for myself. it involved good food, bubbly, sex & the city, celebrity gossip magazines, & pampering things. i would have LOVED to share a girls v day slumber party though!

It's alright, haha! But your pictures are all so fun and getting me in the spirit!
