Girl Time is the Best Time

Yesterday I was feeling all kindsa bluesy, so when my friend Amanda (whom you read about here) came to my office after school and suggested that instead of working out, like we'd planned, that we do something more fun and girly, I couldn't have nodded my head more quickly.

Important to know: I almost never get my nails done.  I love the experience of a mani/pedi at a salon, but I also enjoy doing my nails myself (smoothing & filing & clipping & painting, all while sitting on my couch watching tv with a glass of wine, is so therapeutic to me!).  Therefore, I rarely fork over the cash to get 'em done pretty at a nail salon.  However, yesterday, going to get a mani/pedi followed by a drink at a neighboring bar just seemed oh so right.

So we hopped in my car and went here:

San Francisco Sun, Cole Valley

I've actually been to San Francisco Sun many times before, cause I used to live in the neighborhood, and while I don't get my nails done often . . . when I do, I go there.  I'd like to point out that for $30, you get a delightful manicure and pedicure in the best spa chair I've experienced while enjoying complimentary wine.  That's right, free booze with your mani/pedi!  Suffice to say, Amanda and I were in heaven.  It's pretty in there, everyone is nice, and the owner, Colette, is so neighborly (we ran into her afterwards at the pub next door).

I forgot to take a picture of Amanda's nails, but here is what I chose:

these little piggies went to the salon!

I left my camera in Georgia, so these are merely iPhone pics--my fingernails are actually more light purpley in person.  I love the way they look!  I chose an OPI lilac shade for my fingers and an Essie purple-pink for my toes (I always go darker on my toes).  I have to confess that I already can't wait to go back (but next time I'm gonna try out the gel manicure--anyone done that yet?).

After our decadent nail experience, we hopped over to Kezar Pub for a beer and some nachos:

Kezar is a neighborhoody pub between Cole Valley and Haight/Ashbury, and they have a fine selection of beers on tap (I got Blue Moon; Amanda got Stella).  We split a small nachos and had some great convo and I left feeling totally rejuvenated.  Seriously.  There is nothing in the world like girlfriends to make you feel better about boy problems.  I'm so grateful for my friends (and my city!).

Hope everyone's having a great week . . . I really want to talk about Snooki getting arrested, but this post is already pretty long, so that will have to wait till tomorrow. :)

That sounds wonderful! I've booked pedicures for my best friend and I this coming Saturday. I wish they served wine there too! Your Blue Moon sounds good too. I love that stuff! :) Glad you had such a fun day pampering your selves.

oh how i wish i could have gone! what a FABULOUS deal!!! and beautiful colors (your toe toes are adorable! lol) with wine-- DIVINE!!!

i used to get my nails done all the time when i was reporting (i did the fake gel kind) and that was a lot of money to fork over WITH a pedi but now all i do is the pedi. i HAVE to get them-- it's the one indulgence i allow on a frequent basis cos when you wear heels like we do, it's a MUST for me. I suck at doing my own nails!

a resolution though is to paint my own fingernails so we'll see how that goes! :)

man i wish the one i went to today had wine! but i did get a nice paraffin wax treatment and mask - BLISS!!!

the perfect way to fight off the blues, indeed. oh and don't forget-- IDOL tonight! x

Okay stop. Snooki got arrested? I've been under a rock w/my twisted ankle.

Your nails look fab!! I love the finger color Claire!! mmmmmm cocktails over mani/pedi's. It is a full blown tragedy that we are not neighbors.

Girl time is the best! So glad you had a wonderful time with your friend. And complimentary wine? Sign me up!

I had dinner in the Haight-Ashbury area once - Magnolia something? It was awesome!

I love treating myself to a good mani-pedi once in a while! I can't justify paying for it regularly, but it's a nice treat. I want to try the gel manicure too! Such an ingenius idea. I think it's great for brides who want to get their nails done a few days before the wedding so they're not rushing, but want them to last through their honeymoon.

I booked side-by-side paraffin pedis for my best friend and I today. She'll be here from France next month and we are in definite need of some girl time! I can't wait!

PS: That is an incredible deal. $30 for a mani AND a pedi? And wine? Wow!

I NEVER treat myself to mani/pedi dates and I really want to go this weekend just from looking at your beautiful nails and toes! Love them!! And man oh man how I am craving a Blue Moon - it's been WAY too long since I have had one! When I drank beer, Blue Moon was my absolute favourite! I love how many awesome places there are in your city and I can't wait to fall in love with it too! Soon, very soon :)

i find it so soothing (and a great exercise in self care and self love) to do my own nails as well. once in a while getting someone else to do them is just what i need. sending you a hug my friend!
