Let's Make Good Things Happen, 2012!

My, how I've missed blogging (& reading your blogs)!  I've been swept up in Christmas/New Years/family stuff/getting ready for school to start again . . . but now it's back to the grind, and back to regular blog posting (whew!).

I still have stories & pictures from my holiday in Georgia to report, but that will come tomorrow . . . today, I want to talk about New Year's*!  What did everyone do??  I have to admit that seeing everyone's pictures of glittery outfits and fingernails sorta made me want to go out on the town, but my instincts (and meager, post-Christmas bank account) took over and we (me, Matt, roomie Jen, & two friends) had an awesome, champagne-soaked, uproarious night in.  See below:

clockwise from top left: Jonathan, RJ, Jen, Matt
*via diptic, one of my new favorite apps!

Our evening involved vegan chili, beer bread, lots and lots of sparkling red wine and champagne, hilarious board games (my current faves: Loaded Questions and Say Anything), and end-of-the-night karaoke.  And I wouldn't have had it any other way. :)

As for resolutions . . . I've learned (the hard way) that setting year-long goals isn't exactly for me.  Ha!  Last year, I saw that some bloggers were setting month-long goals, which seems waaaaaay more feasible to me, so that's what I'm doing this time around.  My goals aren't exactly overly ambitious, but I think they're conquerable.  The first one, however, is depressing.

January 2012 Goals:
1. no cheese
2. clean & organize closet
bonus: clean & organize car

And that, my friends, is it.  Trust that abstaining from cheese for an excruciating 31 days will be hard enough!  What are your goals?

see you in February . . . in lesser quantities

p.s. Did you have your black eyed peas and collard greens on New Year's Day?  Gotta get that luck & money!

(my New Year's food)

*Matt: I believe that New Year's, with a possessive apostrophe, uses the correct grammar, as there is an implied "Eve" after "Year's" that belongs to the preceding "New Year's." ;)

Welcome back! Fun NYE pics. Hope everyone had a great time belting out songs.

Organizing - such a good resolution. I need to do that too.

Looking forward to reading more from you in 2012.

I could not give up cheese! I'll support you from afar for being way stronger than I could ever be.

I like the idea of monthly goals. Happy 2012!

1. i'm going to have to say that i always think new year's eve in with friends or family is by far superior to some loud, overcrowded place filled with drunk and obnoxious strangers.

2. let me know how a month without cheese goes. i could never do it.

I think an at-home NYE is fabulous! I am so old now (haha) that I actually hate the crowds of NYE. And it really does bring out an unideal crowd to be around.

And good luck with your January goals!

That looks like my kind of NYE! I love some karaoke!
Cheese.. ah.. I need to cut it out myself!! One of my favorite 3 food groups! LOL!!

No cheese is a good goal. I never should be eating cheese but I do every once in a while.

One New Years Eve we played a card game, Anomia, it was pretty fun. You have to check it out. We almost lost our voices because of it.

I love Loaded Questions! We played a similar game on NYE and it was insanely fun:)

I also love your resolution for no cheese - I think I may need to do the same!

I just cleaned out my closet last week (it took me six hours, but I'm majorly preggo.) I was completely dreading it, but played the Sound of Music and other holiday movies and I was finally done it was a *huge* relief and everything is much more organized now. So cheers to you for tackling that project this winter.

I've never done that luck & money thing, but I dig collard greens!

happy new year Claire! :)

I like your goals - simple and attainable! I think sometimes I go crazy with resolutions. I spent my NYE with friends at a house party it was so much fun, a great way to start the New Year. All the best for 2012!

You can do it! Giving up cheese won't be easy, but it's just a month. I really love New year's traditions and admittedly struggled with the grammar as well. Luckily, I decided to make it possessive. Wish I had an ounce of your grammar skillz. Happy new year! Glad it was a fun night in. :)

It has been a few years since I've had any desire to go out on NYE... I much prefer to stay in :) Your night sounds fabulous!!

I don't really set resolutions anymore either... I guess I try to set goals all year long when I know I need to do something differently or make a change. Why wait for once a year?? Just my take :)

Happy 2012!!!! And no cheese?!?! That would so not work where I live :)

I think those are some attainable goals. I couldn't do it because I love cheese!!

Glad you had a fun New years eve!

don't worry...giving up cheese isn't as hard as you might think. this coming from a born and raised cheese aficionado and lover.

well it might be during the holidays but any other day it's not. i limited my cheese intake mid last year which turned to completing cutting it out. it wasn't bad! and even though i thought about cheese often, i didn't miss it.

you'll see.

good luck.

NO CHEESE?!? Good luck. I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off though. ;) Your NYE looks like so much fun! I went to dinner with a friend and then drank wine and watched The Way We Were/Modern Family at her apartment. It was quite nice!

I appreciate Matt's quote. No cheese is tough, but doable, and even for people whose favorite food is just that... I went through that when my youngest was born and he was nursing and at 10 days old came to be allergic to all things dairy... which meant, so did I! It's hard at first and easy after 2 weeks. :) Glad you're back blogging and had a great holiday!

I think setting monthly goals is a great idea! I’m doing Project 52 so I hope that I can get my list accomplished in 52 weeks. I gotta check out diptic!

Your New Year's* (haha Matt made me smile!) looked like sooo much fun! Philip and I use to have regular game nights at our house and I really miss it! We'd round up our friends and play Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture and Cranium. I have to say I LOVE Jen's expression! I want to know what song she's so into :) Love it!!

Good luck on your no cheese diet! I know you can do it! If I can give up chocolate (one of my most favourite things ever!) for a month, I know you can forgo cheese. And can I just say how proud I am of you for making such a resolution, you said it wasn't overly ambitious - but I think it is!!

I wish you so much joy in 2012!!! I have a feeling it's going to be a beautiful year for you :) And I'm so glad you'll be part of my 2012! I can't wait to hug you again! xo

Happy 2012! I really like your idea of setting monthly goals...I may just do the same!
Good luck with the no cheese goal! I haven't had it in almost two years, and I can feel such a difference in my endurance. Also, less dairy = fewer allergies.

ha, well- besides the no cheese the list will feel pretty good! :) Cheese is way harder for me to give up than chocolate or the like- it's just so good.

Looks like you had a fab NYE. I love staying in with friends. To me, that's those are the best times. Wishing all the best in 2012 and I think month long goals is really brilliant. Good luck!
