What to do on a rainy, gray day

I don't think I could ever live some place where it rains all the time.

Luckily, Bay Area weather is essentially perfect all year round.  It's never freezing, nor blazing hot (though I've been oh so jealous of people posting snow pics lately!).  But here in San Francisco, we're in the midst of a predicted 5-day rain streak, and I'm trying to keep my chin up and brainstorm means by which I can enjoy the rain.  Here are my ideas:

Hot chocolate with Kahlua!  The other night, at an unreasonably late hour, I announced that I was having a severe coffee craving (but that I knew it was way too late for coffee), to which my roommate responded, "Have some hot chocolate instead!"  I grumbled into the kitchen to start the kettle, when suddenly it dawned on me: I could add Kahlua to my hot chocolate, which would potentially satisfy my coffee craving!  Et voila.

A Modern Family marathon on my couch.  They're just all so funny.  Especially Cam.  Lighthearted humor: a perfect antidote to relentless rain.

Stretching.  Lately I've been feeling so tight and inflexible; usually I'm pretty limber!  I'm trying to commit to stretching every night before bed (usually I stretch several times throughout the day) in hopes that it will help my vicious insomnia.  How amazing is this picture?  I suppose this pose could be the ultimate goal of stretching.

Vegetarian French Onion soup . . . how incredible does this look?  I've been all about soup lately: butternut squash, roasted tomato, minestrone, three bean chili.  Unfortunately this particular soup (the veggie French Onion) will have to wait until February when I resume eating cheese, but you better believe I'm pinning it so I can make it the first week of next month!

Tell me: do you have any rainy day tips?

OK so admittedly, when I lived in SF I hated the rainy days out there to the point of no return. They seemed to be never-ending sometimes and the rain would just drizzle down for days on end. Always made me blue. But, a trip to IKEA never hurt anyone, nor did it ever hurt their checkbook too much. And I pinned that French Onion soup. Damn that looks good. I'm on a diet of very low carbs and fats per my doctor, but that soup just looks way too good to pass up with that yummy looking melted cheese.

LOL. Being in Seattle, I have PLENTY of suggestions, but I think you covered most of them.

That french onion soup looks terrific!!!! I think that will be ON my menu this weekend...since I am still cheesy. :) That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. "Oh! She gave up on the cheeseless January!" Nope. You are so good. Enjoy yourself!

That soup looks amazing... and Cam, he's my favorite too. I really need to start yoga because being completely unable to touch my toes is going to hurt me as a runner big-time! I like your rainy day style!

I've been drinking a lot of hot chocolate too! But I need to try it with some Kahlua instead of just a tad of coffee creamer to help cool it off haha

I've been wanting to watch Modern Family! It looks so hilarious! But I still have SOA to watch lol Right now I'm almost all caught up on "Grey's Anatomy" thanks to hulu so I should be able to start SOA soon.

I wish I was flexible. I'm so not flexible. Maybe I should give stretching a try too. Of course I said I was going to do crunches before bed but have yet to start that! hahaha So thanks for reminding me and for motivating me without even knowing you did :)

I thought about you the other day when I put cheese on my sandwich. You're so strong girl. I'm so proud of you! Almost there :)

Movies are the perfect remedy for a rainy day, for any day really - but I know how you're not a movie person!

p.s. Can't wait to enjoy that Bay Area weather again!!! :) SO excited!

Usually on a rainy day I like to curl up with a good book and a cup of coffee!

Mmmm, hot chocolate! I like mine with Baileys... especially in the midst of some crazy, cold winter weather.

Am also a huge fan of soup. I could eat it every day and be happy.

Just started watching Modern Family. Totally laugh-out-loud show. How have I missed it until now?

Living on Vancouver Island, we get loads of rain. I like to take myself to the bookstore and then for a latte to beat the rainy day blues. Also like to turn up some happy music and have a dance party in my living room.

Happy Weekend, Claire!

I really like Modern Family I never plan to watch it but it always comes on at the right time when I am slumped on the lounge.

it snowed last night. can`t wait to listen to the crunch of it all day today!

I love to snuggle up when it's raining - books, blankets, coffee, etc! I will definitely have to remember the hot chocolate next time!

love me some french onion soup!

rainy days are great for staying in pjs and drinking copious amounts of tea or wine with a good book or movies galore! [or portlandia marathons, which is my new obsession.]

We're having a little rain here in L.A. as well...wish we had more. We desperately need it!
Happy weekend!!

That French onion soup looks amazing. I've been loving soups lately, too! You'll have to let me know how it goes in February.

I love hot chocolate and tea on a rainy day. if I'm feeling really restless, sometimes I bundle up, put on a big coat, grab my umbrella and go for a walk! Sounds crazy, but it feels so refreshing. Also, it makes you appreciate a cozy, warm house.

I think all your ideas are great for rainy days. I also love to sit and read or watch several movies. There is something so cosy about constant rain.

I would love to be as flexible as that picture. Amazing!

Wait? Did you just say it's never freezing in SF?! I beg to differ sister! LOL every time I've gone up - no matter the season - I freeze!

And yay for Modern Family. I love that show!

I would do anything for a coffee with bailey's right now instead of this decaf junk i'm sipping on ;)

that french onion soup looks DELICIOUS!!!! so much so i am making this on one of my three days off in a row (starting today!). So much so, that if i were withholding the cheese, i would totally break it just to have some of this soup. :) GO YOU!!! seriously, i am so proud of you.

rain is my happy weather... enjoy it twice for me :)

love you more than you know xoxo
