I've only got one thing on the brain

When I get an idea in my head, it's basically all I can think about.  So ever since I decided I wanted a little beagle girl last week, it's all I can think about.  You should see my laptop's search history . . .

or maybe I want two . . .

(all pics from google image)

You'd think I would know better, given the beagle in my life.  What can I say, I'm a sucker for the bad ones.  Ryan has advised me not to get a puppy, and I know she's probably right . . . but my goodness, look how cute they are!  The one thing I know for sure is that I won't get one from a breeder.  There are too many dogs who need to be rescued.  And so, I've been trolling NorCal Beagle Rescue, the Beagle Freedom Project, Petfinder, etc . . . any other ideas?

We got Ignatius from the Atlanta Humane Society when he was a mere 10 weeks old.  He was as cute as the puppies in these pictures . . . too bad he behaved like a raging monster as soon as we walked out the Humane Society door (we later found out that he had been adopted and returned twice).  I've looked at the Humane Societies around here, and none of them have straight-up beagles . . . plus, I need a girl, so I can name her Myrna Minkoff, after Ignatius Reilly's girlfriend in A Confederacy of Dunces!

Send me good beagle thoughts, please! :)

aww we just rescued our little guy (Bear). They are certainly cute, but SO MUCH WORK. Unreal. And we adopted ours too young so it was even harder. Do lots of research before you buy. But if your heart is in it, do it!!!

BEAGLE LOVE. There's a beagle out there waiting to be your Valentine, I promise.

And yes, all beagles make the cutest puppies, but they grow up, fast and with it comes their naughty behavior :).

Speaking of beagle love, I've been nursing my oldest one back to health since Thursday night. She was so, so sick and seems to be back to her naughty self!

puppy!!! i've decided that i am ready for a dog too (german shepherd for us). the hubby has been rather unconvinced, but from the moment i told him i wanted one, the universe has been sending german shepherd after german shepherd our way. and i couldn't agree more about rescuing one. we've found several german shepherd rescue organizations and the SPCA has had a lot of german shepherds lately as well. there's nothing better than knowing your adorable furry four-legged child was saved by you. good luck lady!

the reason i decided to go with a breeder this time was because the last two pups i've had that were adopted were both hellians.. not saying all pups that are rescued are that way but it was a lot of work to try and train a puppy when i work 8+ hours a day. it was better for me to get one at a young age so that i could train it myself and so far she has done really well.

other than that, i don't really have much input.. sorry love. good luck and i hope you can find a sweet little beagle girl pup to join your family :) xoxo

I have always thought that beagles are the cutest puppies ever! If only they stayed perma-puppies instead of growing up. ☺

Puppies are tons of work but we just love our little ones. They sure put a smile on our faces and bring so much love to us. I am sure the perfect one is waiting for you somewhere out there.

I completely understand the concept of getting an idea in your head and obsessing...I am doing the same thing with moving to NYC, ha!

i can sense the determination in this post...it's the same one i had when i decided i was finally going to get the bulldog i'd always wanted. an all white male bully named blue so i could say "you're my boy blue!"

i ended up naming him bodie and he cost me a bitch load of money thx to the overpriced breeder (never again).

all that aside, he was the best decision of my life. i love that little nugget...and now i have two!

good luck with your search!

OMG!! Please, please, please adopt a baby beagle girl so we can love on her in May! :) All of these pictures are so freaking cute - but that third one - with his puppy dog eyes!! OMGGG I want to scoop him up! :) Philip absolutely loves dogs! We have two little ones that are constantly running around and horse playing with each other. Sometimes it's cute, but sometimes - like when it's time to go to bed - it's insane lol although I have a feeling that their behaviour is mild compared to that Ig ;) hahaha Love that dog and his shenannigans! Myrna Minkoff - what a beautiful name :) I can't wait until you get her! :) p.s. Maddie just adopted the most beautiful dog from the Humane Society while she was in town two weekends ago. I'll have to email you a picture of her Marlena :)

They're so adorable! I live in Ohio and this morning they just found a foreclosed house with 15 beagles in it. The people had let then overrun the house & just left them there. So sad.

Don't do it. She will rule your life.

There are animals that need loving, and I love it when people find one to love that is from a shelter.

Myrna? Great name.

yay for dogs!

Totally get a puppy. Puppies are great b/c you get to train them from the start, and it can make life easier (esp. if this is the first dog you've had on your own as an adult). Older dogs are great to adopt, but can require a lot more. So, definitely get a puppy!

I also highly recommend perhaps getting a beagle mixed w/something else. Ross was dead set on a border collie, but I was worried it would be too high energy and super neurotic. Our vet agreed with me, and so Ross relented and we got a border collie lab mix. Ross thanks me all the time. Ada is still high energy, still lots of fun, but the negative traits of the border collie are toned down.

I don't much about beagles, but generally when a dog is mixed w/something else it kinda chills them out a bit and lessens there perhaps not super desirable traits.
