Keeping Organized?

Organization skills: probably my biggest deficit.  I really do think this kind of thing is ingrained in your biology or not.  Budgeting, filing, storing, calendering . . . none of this comes naturally to me.  However, I believe that organization skills can be learned, and this summer, I pretty much don't have a choice.

When I left my full-time job at the end of the school year, I was only working at my new job 15 hours a week.  Therefore, I had to set up several other jobs in order to make ends meet.  I'm still just working 20 hours a week at the new job until the fall, so here is what my summer looks like:

*working at Voice of Witness 20 hours/week (varying hours)
*teaching a writing workshop to teens of incarcerated parents 2x/week (plus planning hours)
*babysitting 3 times a week (2 different families)
*teaching at the prison 1x/week

All that plus my own poetry workshops, attempting to schedule social stuff, and keeping any kind of handle on bills, etc. (which um I don't have) means that I have a serious need for some organization tricks.

Check these things out.  Is your life anything like this?  I, for one, can only dream:

This may help, and it's printable

Pretty damn cute.  And someone crafty could totally swing this.

I WISH

I'm still working on this whole organizing thing.  I'm trying to utilize my google calendar more efficiently, I finally ordered one of these, and . . . well, I bought a shoe rack.  So that's a start, right? ;)

Do you have any scheduling/ organizing tips to share?

I'm not wired to be organized either, sadly. I do need to seriously get on board with it though. Love the printable and if my fridge could look that nice, I'd love it!

omg, your work schedule boggles my mind. i have worked at the same job for eight years, toiling away at a 40 hour work week. it is a drag, but i think i'd lose my mind if i was trying to juggle many different jobs. but a girl does what a girl needs to do!

i guess i am semi-organized. part of me likes order, and part of me is lazy. so....i am organized sometimes. lol.

ha! I was totally about to comment, get yourself an EC planner. It changed my life and is totally worth the dollars IMO.

I'm SO bad at organizing anything! Which is also another reason I'm SO glad Faiza is SO great at it and was able to organize the details of our girls trip so beautifully! As far as how I try and stay organized at work - I do "old school" To Do lists, Post It notes ALL over the place (so ghetto, but so in your face that it really helps me! haha) and my iCal at work that synchs up to my iPhone that will set an alarm 15 mins on my phone before the actual event. I've got like a disorganized sense of organized if that makes sense!! haha I'm about to text you two pics of what I'm talking about lol :) So I could def use some help in that department and I'm looking forward to what tips people provide! Proud of you sweet girl for maintaining all those jobs and still take the time out to teach at the prison etc. and for yourself! That's important too! xo

lol every day i read a new post im more convinced we are soul sisters!! hahaha. .. omggg organization DOES NOT come easy to me. i did get an EC planner and I do really love it but generally i make lists of things i need to do, but then procrastinate on them instead of just getting it all taken care of!! sick sick cycle!

Yeah, that's a messy schedule but you of all folks can handle all those commitments! I am really good at organizing and filing, but I hate doing it, go figure. I was planning on spending the entire day tomorrow cleaning out my guest room closet and trying to make it into some kind of cool work nook or reading nook or something. But I lack the creativity for it right now and the money to transform it. So, I'll just clean it out and feel somewhat accomplished. But that fridge organization has me foaming at the mouth --- must. try. that. this. week!!!!

I love organizing. Love it. I've helped to organize all kinds of folks, and it rules my heart. I have an old school, paper planner (complete with stickers a la Ye Olde H Books of yore---- oh yeah, bringing it back!) and it gets pretty out of control with notes. I have relaxed a little since my husband is not even remotely organized, but if I had my way, everything in my life would be organized and color coded (similar to Monica from Friends' wedding binder). Tis but a dream.

you and me both! the one thing i really wish i could do is meal plan. I think it would save us A TON of money and it's something i wish i could get started before little felix arrives but i just don't even know where to start! here's the weird thing with me-- being organized seems like it would make life easier and yet the part of getting there? seems overwhelming! ha i can't explain it. i have something similar to the crafty example you showed (http://dolcevitamicaela.blogspot.com/2009/09/come-inside-have-cup-of-tea.html) that i am vowing to use as a meal planner.

also it just seems that whenever i do get organized (closet, pantry etc) it doesn't take long for it to go back to the way it was. lol I'm terrible!

as far as bills and work schedules, i always buy one of those monthly calendars when the new year starts - i have to see the weeks in advance in calendar form (as opposed to a day planner). Not the small pocket ones, but the medium size ones that are still small enough to put in your purse.

and YES! it's a start, indeed!!!! :)

That window thing is so freaking cute. I wish I could find one (and someone to do it for me...for free)

I don't think I realized that you'd left your job. Sorry I'm out of the loop. But I'm definitely not this organized in anything, and I wish I was sometimes. I look at things on Pinterest and pin them, but in reality the likelihood of most of it getting done is slim...

But I do really like that planner.
