Weekend Update: Olympic Edition

Happy Monday and Happy Olympics!  We spent a good portion of the weekend watching the games & cheering on Team USA.  Matt and I have been talking about how it's pretty amazing that our conflicted world comes together every Olympics and participates in these wholesome, brimming-with-ancient-tradition games.  Sappy, I know.  And speaking of ancient tradition, I love how Greece goes first in the opening ceremony procession!

After working long days on Friday, we hunkered down on the couch to watch the opening ceremonies, and then spent Saturday at a brewhouse up in Santa Rosa watching the games with Matt's son Jasper, who was excited that he got to watch the Olympics on one tv and the Giants' game on the other!

On Sunday, we met up with my good friend Tara (we went to college together in New Orleans and both ended up in San Francisco) for a late lunch at Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe, where I cheated massively on my diet by eating this eggs benedict-esque concoction with gouda cheese, mashed avocado, grilled tomato, poached eggs, and hollandaise on an English muffin.  Man oh man.  Gotta say: it was worth it. And it's always so good to see old friends.  Tara and I don't hang out nearly enough, given our proximity.  Life is so busy!

Last night we watched swimming and gymnastics as I called and texted with Marianne, the world's biggest Olympic (and Ryan Lochte) fan.  This morning, I found this in my inbox, courtesy of Marianne:

American flag grill?  Ohhhhhhhh Ryan.  Isn't the gold around your neck enough bling?

Did you spend the weekend watching the Olympics?  Who's your fave?

Glad you had a good weekend! You deserved it after your tough week! And how cute Matt's son sounds.

So true about the Olympics and coming together. If only that lasted!

I was totally surprised at Lochte's style lol that grill-- OMG! ha i tell twinkie i just don't get it. Isn't she the most dedicated olympic fan? (i mean staying away from social media, pretty dedicated :) well except for Thurs. when she goes and sees her other athletic boyfriend-and true love- C.J. pitch against the Rangers in Arlington)

i believe in cheating on diets once in awhile, esp. when out with friends and what you had sounds SO WORTH IT!!! mmm gouda cheese.

I did spend the weekend watching the olympics. I love swimming but my favorite like you has always been women's gymnastics.

AHHHH Claire!!!!! OMGG you and Micaela cracked me up with your comments about my man's grill over the weekend!! ;) To me it shows his unique personality and style....okay, okay whatever...he's just SO sexy he can do whatever he wants and I would still want to take out my seahorse!!! ;) hahaha Seriously though, his personality reminds me a lot of C.J.'s (I'm going to see him on THURSDAY!!! AHHH!! I'm one happy girl!) and I think that's what drew me to him :) I've enjoyed so much talking Olympics with you and Matt. His "live tweets" are freaking hilarious! I about died from laughter reading the one about the gymnast camel toe LOL I am loving his campaign to make me a dame ;) What a sweetie you have for a man! All weekend long I have been wishing we were all together watching and cheering Team USA over moscato! I hope that guide I emailed you this morning (along with my man's sexy mug)helps!! I'll be thinking of you when I watch my man compete for another gold (AND NOT TWEET ABOUT IT until AFTER it airs on the West Coast I promise ;) tonight! Love you Claire! Text me as you watch ;) xoxo

Lol! Marianne is so loyal! She still loves Ryan even after that grill pic. He can do no wrong!

I get super emotional when the Olympics are on. I have pretty much stopped wearing mascara this week because I tear up all the time! Yay for people getting together and utopic...even if it is short lived!

Oh I love this time of the year (every two years) with the Olympics! Ryan is such a hottie. I was happy he finally got the gold he wanted.

Oh Ryan Lochte... those grill are madness.

I am still a die-hard Phelps fan. Just gives me goosebumps watching him make history.

Love beach vball- Misty and Kerri. So fun to watch.

I also found myself really moved by that British heptathalon athelete. Jess Ennis... I think that was her name. Very neat story.

I just love the games period. I love all the stories. I love how people all over the world train so hard to make it to the games. And I love how much pride these athletes all have in their sports and their respective countries. I love the Olympics. Period.

I've always wanted a silver or gold tooth. Next time you get mad at me, punch me in the mouth, so I can get a precious metal tooth.
